Sypher 'Holding The Flu'
Sypher was an American nu metal / alternative metal band active in the early 2000s, originating from California (Sacramento / Rancho Cordova area). The band emerged during the peak of the nu metal movement, drawing influence from the heavy, groove-oriented sound that defined the era while maintaining a distinctly underground identity.
In 2001, Sypher released their only known full-length album, Holding the Flu, independently on CD. The album features aggressive guitar work, dynamic rhythmic structures, and emotionally driven vocals, reflecting the raw and unpolished character of early-2000s nu metal. Holding the Flu gained limited circulation but became a cult item among underground listeners and collectors.
Sypher performed live throughout California during 2001, participating in the local metal and alternative scene. Despite their short lifespan, the band left a small but notable mark within the underground nu metal circuit. Shortly after the release of Holding the Flu, the project came to an end, and the members later continued under the name Parallel Shift.
Although never reaching mainstream exposure, Sypher remains a representative example of early-2000s underground nu metal, with Holding the Flu standing as a snapshot of the genre’s raw, independent spirit.
