Defile 'Defile'
Defile was a nü metal band from Northern Pennsylvania formed in September 2000, developing a heavy, emotional sound typical of the early 2000s underground scene. The group recorded and circulated early material under the name Defile, gaining a small local following with their blend of downtuned guitars, aggressive vocals and raw, alternative-metal energy. After their initial releases, the band was forced to change their name due to legal issues and continued briefly as Hyphema, carrying over the same lineup and musical direction. Under both names, their work remained mostly independent, with demos and tracks like “Pill Form America,” “Down,” “Disassociation,” and “Open Mouth (Closed Mind)” appearing on fan sites and music-sharing communities over the years, along with releases often listed as Defile (2001), Hyphema (2002), Winter (2003) and some later unreleased material. Although documentation of the band is limited, Defile/Hyphema represents a small but authentic piece of the early-2000s underground nü metal landscape, remembered primarily through scattered recordings and archival uploads preserved by fans.
